A different job title does not tell you how the work will fit your life or experience. Begin with the responsibilities you want to use, the conditions you need, and the questions that could change your decision. Use the same categories for each role so a persuasive conversation does not substitute for a comparison.
Separate verified facts from open questions.
For each position, record the source and date of important details. A job posting, recruiter conversation, interview answer, and written offer are different kinds of evidence. Mark anything that still needs confirmation. Do not fill an empty field with an assumption about how another department usually works.
Compare the work and support.
- What are the regular duties, and what responsibilities are outside the role?
- What orientation, supervision, feedback, and escalation support are described?
- Which credentials or experience must already be in place?
- What schedule, on-call duties, travel, or location requirements apply?
- What would the employer expect during the first 30, 60, and 90 days?
Keep pay comparisons like for like.
Record the stated base rate and its unit, such as an hourly amount or annual salary. Keep differentials, overtime assumptions, bonuses, benefits, and reimbursement separate. An illustration built on expected extra shifts is different from confirmed base pay. Use current written terms when making a decision.
Make the gaps actionable.
If a role calls for experience you do not yet have, describe the gap honestly. Look for a legitimate learning step, an available mentor, or a requirement you need the employer to clarify. Do not rewrite your history to make the application appear closer to the posting.
Build a small transition plan.
Choose one evidence example to prepare, one requirement to verify, and one application step. Keep dates and dependencies visible. Review what you learn before widening the search or committing to a move.
